Beauty Favorites – Skin Care.

So when thinking about this blog and some different post ideas, I wanted to make sure that it was a good representation of who I am and what I love. Well, makeup and beauty products totally fall in that category.

I was going to post everything that I love in one post, but I think I might break it up by category. Otherwise this post will be sooo long!

So first up in the series:

Skin Care:BeautyFavs_Jan-1My Clarisonic is probably the best beauty tool I own. I started using this 2 years ago and my face has improved sooo much. It deep cleans your skin without damaging it and they have different brush heads for different types of skin. Purity Cleanser by Philosophy. I’ve tried SOOO many face cleansers over the years. I used to always think that my acne needed the super strong chemicals to kill them, when actually I just needed something simple and pure. Since I started using this, I’ve tried others and always come back to this guy. I buy the big bottle and it lasts me 4-5 months.

I have really oily skin, so I try not to use too many heavy moisturizing products. But, moisturizing is such an important part of skin care so I have to do it. The Simple Light Moisturizer is a repeat buy for me.

My friend Carly introduced me to Essential Oils about a year ago and they are a pretty big part of my life now. Especially in the skin care department. Melaleuca, most commonly known as ‘Tea Tree’ is best known for it’s purifying properties and can be used to cleanse and purify the skin. Frankincense is one of the most precious essential oils (it was given as a gift to Jesus at birth!) It can reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and smells so lovely. The use of Geranium dates back to ancient Egypt. Egyptians used the oil to beautify the skin and since then has been used to promote the appearance of clear skin and healthy hair! I add a few drop of each to a glass spray bottle and top if off with some witch hazel (which in itself has SO many skin care benefits) and spray it on my face after every cleanse (which is every morning and night). This is a must have for me. It keeps my oily skin in check and prevents any breakouts from getting out of control. If you want to know more about essential oils and how they can help your skin care routine, let me know!

BeautyFavs_Jan-4As much as I talk about my skin being oily, I’ve learned that your skin sometimes over-produces oil when it’s not moisturized enough! So once or twice a week I like to apply grapeseed oil to my skin at night, after cleansing. Grapeseed oil is a dryer oil then most oils so it sinks into the skin faster and doesnt make you feel like your going to slide all over your pillow. During the winter, (especially this winter, as it’s colder than usual) my skin has been a lot more dry so I’ve been using this a lot more.

And last but not even close to least:

I couldn’t possible talk about skin care and NOT talk about the MOST IMPORTANT PART. Let me say that again, just in case you were zoning out: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!

Makeup Removal. Please, please, please! At the end of the day, take your makeup off!! One of my biggest pet peeves is people who don’t take their makeup off at the end of the day. I mean, I don’t hate you if you don’t take it off, but I will beg you to stop doing it. lol It’s so simple and doesn’t take a ton of time, so no excuses.

Excuse me while I step on a soap box real quick:

I love makeup. I love making my face look all pretty, but that makeup means absolutely NOTHING if you aren’t comfortable in your own skin. When I was younger I felt like I had to wear makeup to cover up all my breakouts and redness. What I didn’t realize was that most of my skin issues and insecurites would have been solved if I just learned to take care of my skin. The skin on my face and body is going to be with me till I die, it’s the only one I get so I want to take care of it! And this includes not sleeping with your makeup on….

ok, Stepping down now….

I use the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water on a cotton pad to remove my eye and brow makeup. I used to use makeup remover lotion and half the time that stuff made my eyes BURN. This cleansing water is so gentle and doesn’t leave a lot of residue. The Petal Fresh Makeup wipes come from Ross and have Tea Tree and Peppermint in them. The wipes themselves are pretty large so it makes taking my face makeup off real easy.

Then I repeat my morning cleansing routine (clarisonic, purity, essential oil blend and grapeseed oil) and go to bed!

That’s it for my skin care routine! There are SOOO many good skincare products out there… but for now, these things work best for me! In two months… it might change. 🙂

I hope you guys enjoyed this! Stay tuned for the next post… We start talking about makeup  🙂

    1. I would absolutely recommend it! Using it everyday has changed my skin soooo much! I use the sensitive brush head so it’s not super harsh on my skin. It recharges fairly quickly (I just plug it in at night while I sleep) and the battery life hasn’t changed much in the 2 years that I’ve had it. it’s a fairly expensive purchase but it’s absolutely worth it.
